Giving Thanks for all Blessings - Big and Small
In this stressed-out, complicated world we live in, we sometimes forget to be grateful for the blessings we have and the loving friends and family in our lives.
But at this time of year, I’m reminded of how grateful I am for the kind and caring support people like you have given.
Those who made our mission to rescue innocent mustangs and domestic horses from abuse by cruel and unthinking people their mission too. And together, we have saved desperate horses from the death grip of the slaughterhouse and given them the second chance they so deserve.
As I reflect on this past year, I think of all our accomplishments that were only possible with help from our Lifesavers family.
That’s why, at this time of year, I want to express gratitude for all those blessings.
And I want to think about the dreams and miracles that have come true for us this year, most notably...
🤎We rescued 11 weanling reservation burros. Their mommas had already been sent through the slaughter pipeline. The babies came to Lifesavers.
🤎Stig is the little mustang with a spinal deformity who was being ridden in the auction ring. Saved from any more abuse.
🤎Packer was used as a hunting pack horse until dumped at a slaughter auction.
🤎Zora, Mico, Rory, Joey, Carmela, and Kerri (in the below photo)– all rescued from the slaughter pipeline.
🤎And, so many dogs! Dumped in the desert with no means of survival. Of course, we took them in.
We have started the re-location project that will bring our Lancaster, California ranch and all the horses and operations to our Sanctuary location in Caliente. Thanks to the generous gift from a donor upon her passing through an estate bequest, we have been able to purchase the first 20-acre property that will become “Sunset Acres”. This ranch will be the senior horse assisted living facility for all our aged equine residents who need to be on special feed and on welfare watch. We will have a caretaker whose only job is to make sure our horses in their sunset years have the most comfortable and content lives until the end.
This is a miracle still in the making with a lot of work ahead because we currently have over 100 horses in their 20’s and sooner than later they will all need to check into Sunset Acres, making the operation a much larger one.
Now, it’s almost 2024 and although we’ve accomplished a great deal this year, we still have a great deal more to do. With 400 mouths to feed, we need all the help we can get.
And I don’t want my heartfelt meaning of this message to get lost in all these words, so I’ll say it again – I am so grateful for the blessings of our Lifesavers family.
We have lots of plans and goals for our horses. But we can only reach them if you help.
From my heart to yours,
Jill Starr
